Needs From: United Way of Greater Greensboro

The Senior Wheels Medical Transportation Program provides rides for seniors age 60 and over who are ambulatory to medical appointments in Guilford County and to regional medical facilities. Volunteer drivers from the community provide the rides to scheduled medical appointments. Volunteers must be 21 years or older with a valid license and insurance. Volunteers must pick-up clients from their home, drive clients to their appointment, wait and then take the client home. Volunteers can expect to spend 2-3 hours with this task. Requirement of 1 appointment a month.  

United Way of Greater Greensboro’s Mentoring Matters initiative works to increase the number of mentors and improve the effectiveness of mentoring programs in the Greater Greensboro area.

Mentors help keep students in school, improve self-esteem, and set career goals and take steps to realize them.

Our Meals on Wheels program delivers more than 600 hot meals every weekday to homebound seniors. We rely on more than 70 volunteer drivers per day. Volunteers deliver meals to seniors in Guilford Countycounty using their own vehicles. Routes range from 10-20 clients and take 1-2 hours to deliver. Delivery is between 8:45am and 12:30pm. Volunteers must be 21 years or older with a valid license and insurance. Pick up location at 1401 Benjamin Parkway, Greensboro NC. 27408. Once a month commitment required.

Interested in learning more about hosting a food drive in your neighborhood for the month of May?

We are here to help! It is a fun, easy, and competitive way to bring more food to more children over the summer months. If you want more information on how to do it, we will have 3 options for information sessions. Monday, April 6th at 5pm, Wednesday April 29th at 10am or Tuesday, May 5th.  Click RESPOND and what day you prefer and we will be in touch.  

Help shoppers shop! Volunteers assist in selecting items, boxing groceries and sometimes carrying groceries to their car. Add additional stock and sort donated food. 

Help unload food coming in for shoppers. Shelve and sort items. 

Help shoppers with food selection. Restock shelves. Check out shoppers. 

Deliver food to homebound individuals. Once a month commitment. The driver keeps the same route. Drivers can choose their day. Choices are the 2nd Tuesday or Wednesday of the month, 3rd Monday, or the 4th Monday of the month.

We invite you to volunteer and help us celebrate the accomplishments of our Family Success Center members. Volunteers will support event setup, lunch service, and cleanup, and will also have the opportunity to hear inspiring remarks, connect with others, and enjoy a fun and rewarding time together.
